NASSAU, BAHAMAS – BPL CEO Shevonn Cambridge making startling revelations into the $95 million-dollar Wärtsilä engines bought under the former administration. Cambridge says modifications were made to the engines which resulted in the engines being somewhat compromised in their ability to function as designed.

Less than 24 hours after Prime Minister Philip Davis said something is rotten at BPL, adding the Wärtsilä engines never worked, BPL CEO Shevonn Cambridge says the engines haven’t been operating the way they were designed.

Speaking at the weekly OPM press briefing, Cambridge says the original proposal indicated the engines were supposed to be tri-fueled. He says work must now be done to convert them to tri-fuel engines which requires a significant investment.

BPL ended its contract with Wärtsilä to operate 123 megawatts of generation at Clifton Pier at the end of 2022.

In March 2019, it was announced that BPL would install the Wärtsilä engines at a cost of $95 million.

Today, Cambridge says the engines were supposed to have been tri-fueled.

The BPL CEO also revealing the modifications to the engines hampered the intended fuel-saving plan.
