NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The equity rate adjustment is just one of five energy reforms detailed at the announcement of new and comprehensive energy reforms outside of the Office of the Prime Minister this morning. The goal is to help ease the burden on average Bahamian families and encourage energy conservation through incentivization.

Minister of Energy and Transport JoBeth Coleby-Davis says these new rates will apply starting next month. Coleby-Davis says the upper bands will stay the same. Commercial consumers and Family Island consumers can also expect a reduction. While tariff rates may change, everyone will still have to pay fuel charges for every unit consumed. Coleby-Davis says these new rates will be in effect until a comprehensive tariff review is completed and new rates are approved by the government and URCA.
