OTTAWA, CANADA – Hoteliers and tourism-related businesses are seeing a growing number of Canadian visitors, with the potential for even more arrivals during the upcoming winter months.

This week, the Ministry of Tourism is working to get a head start on attracting that business. Our Jerome Sawyer is in Canada for the Ministry’s three-city Global Sales Mission.

As Canadians prepare for winter, they’ll have new options for warm-weather getaways, including 45 weekly nonstop flights from five Canadian cities. And the Ministry is determined to make sure The Bahamas is at the top of their list.

The Global Sales Mission kicked off in Ottawa, the first stop on the tour.

Hon. Chester Cooper – Minister of Tourism, Investments & Aviation
Location: Ottawa, Canada

“We have really set on a path to make it easy and accessible for you to come to The Bahamas. The Bahamas is only three hours away.”

Each night, travel partners get a glimpse of the many amenities across the 16 island destinations of The Bahamas, in a showcase designed to dazzle even the most discerning traveler.

So why the focus on Canada? The numbers speak for themselves: Canadian visitor arrivals have doubled compared to last year, as more travelers choose The Bahamas over traditional U.S. destinations.

Even local hoteliers see the opportunity.

Brent Ingraham – Director of Sales & Marketing, Abaco Beach Hotel

“Coming here and having personal contact with these travel agents and introducing them to what’s being offered in the Abacos certainly gives them more options.”

Yasmine Mills Strachan – Director of Sales, Comfort Suites Paradise Island

“This trip and this mission is super important to Comfort Suites Paradise Island because it gives us an opportunity to showcase what we have to offer, to bring the sweetness of paradise to Canada.”

Starting next month, Porter Airlines will join Air Canada and WestJet, offering nonstop service from Ottawa, Halifax, and Calgary.

Tonight, Halifax is the next stop, as the Ministry continues to pitch The Bahamas as the ultimate warm escape for Canadian travelers.
