NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Negotiations for the first Industrial Agreement between The Bahamas Technical & Vocational Institute and the Union of Tertiary Educators of The Bahamas are still ongoing.

An agreement has been reached on several issues including:

Bahamian faculty will be granted full time, pensionable positions after one year probation.

Non-Bahamian faculty will be granted contracts of continuous employment, up to ten years, after which time, they may be reengaged based on their legal immigration status.

Career paths have been established to acknowledge the work of dedicated faculty members, to encourage faculty to continuously upgrade themselves professionally, and to recognize the efforts of those faculty members who work hard.

Faculty will be required to serve on various BTVI committees and may also serve as committee members on external boards for four hours a month to help with the institute and the nation’s development and progress.

In addition, retirees who have reached the age of 65 will be able to work on annual contracts up to age 70, based on the availability of classes/enrollment.

Faculty may retire early at age 55 or after serving for thirty years.
