NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The organization of the Eastern Caribbean States calling on the United Kingdom Government to remove the order in council which has the power to suspend the British Virgin Islands’ Constitution.

The UK government filed the order in council in the Privy Council in June as a safety measure ensuring British Virgin Islands officials implement reforms meant to address concerns raised in a commission of inquiry report.

The order allows the UK government to impose direct rule on the BVI.

Premiere Natailo Wheately speaking on the issue earlier this year during a celebration of the late Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee.
