NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The C.R Walker Knights went “around the world” to take home the Senior Division win at the 2025 Junior Junkanoo Parade.

These students are just a small representation of the group that rocked Bay Street, with hits like Hukunah Matatata.

I spoke to two of the band members, firstimers, who shared with me what it was like to participate in the parade.

“It’s been ups and downs first I didn’t even wanna do it but after talking couple people seeing all the greats I decided to pick it up again,” says Javis Forbes – Student C.R Walker Senior High School

“It feels great I worked hard to get this position and it comes with a lot of responsibilities it’s a great position to have,” says Rico Thompson – C.R Walker Senior High Student

Band Teacher at the school, Walden Young, says he’s proud, adding all he did was provide the material, the students took it from there to teach themselves.

“Forty members or so that rages of students from grade 10,11,12 on various instruments some of the students switch their main instruments  to someone else for the junior Junkanoo I have woodwind players that okay brass I have brass that played percussion so they were real versatile, ” says Young

Dominique Newbold is Head Boy at the school and also a bell player.

“Anything that keeps young children off the streets today is honestly a very positive thing to do. I hope that more people can get into Junkanoo and stay off the streets,” says Newbold
