NASSAU, BAHAMAS – It’s not a matter of if, but when amendments to the sexual offenses act with be passed, according to Social Services State Minister Lisa Rahming.

Rahming giving the assurance that the proposed amendments to the Sexual Offenses Act will receive Parliamentary approval.

She says it’s a matter of when it will happen.

Her comments came at a joint forum at the University of The Bahamas.

The forum had a host of panelists from the church, politics, and civil society.

Kingdom Life Church Senior Pastor Cedric Moss expressed concern about the term rape in marital rape and offered other options.

He also says he believes successive governments have failed to address the issue.

The issue of marital rape has been a hot-button topic for quite some time.

In 2009, the then Ingraham administration tabled a bill that would’ve made spousal rape a crime with a possible life sentence

Ingraham explained last year that back in September that he was forced to withdraw the bill because he didn’t have the support of members of the Free National Movement or the Progressive Liberal Party.

Offering a legal perspective, attorney Robyn Lynes says the discussion has become too much about personal opinion. She posed the question, after rape, then what?
