NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Teachers of the Thelma Gibson school walking off the job alleging they are in fear of their lives after allegations of an altercation between a senior staff member and a teacher. 

The education minister and the teachers’ union president both weigh in. 

Teachers saying the principal, Olivia Daxon has to go, as the scene outside the Thelma Gibson Primary school today showed teachers protesting out front.

President of The Bahamas Union of Teachers Belinda Wilson confirming the action stems from an allegation of an incident between the school’s principal and a teacher. Wilson further claims a police report has been filed and she too has sent reports to those in authority.

Education Minister Glenys Hanna-Martin says she is aware of the situation and has asked for reports from both teachers’ unions, noting that these kinds of disruptions cannot be allowed.

The Our News team tried to get a comment from the principal of the institution but we were told by security officers that we will not be allowed on property to speak with the principal.
