NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Stability for Haiti among top priorities of 44th CARICOM Heads of Government Meeting this week.

Prime Minister Philip Davis explains the solution to economic and political instability in Haiti will have to come from within the region, with the support of other nations.

United States Secretary of State John Kerry and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will be special guests at this year’s CARICOM meeting – something PM Davis says should help in finding solutions.

But he made it clear that any solution to the crisis in Haiti has to be an Haitian solution – not an American, Canadian or CARICOM solution.

CARICOM Secretary General Carla Natalie Barnett explains who will represent Haiti in those discussions. However, the crisis in Haiti is not the sole focus of these meetings this week.

Regional leaders will also discuss immigration, food security and the impact of the covid-19 pandemic on our healthcare systems.
