NASSAU , BAHAMAS – The celebration for Team Bahamas’ historic eighth straight title at the CARIFTA Aquatics Championships turned into a public dispute between government and swimming officials.

Sports Minister Mario Bowleg claims Algernon Cargill and the Bahamas Aquatics Federation allowed a boycott of a welcome reception after just two of 36 swimmers attended.

Cargill fired back, saying athletes were disappointed there was no airport greeting at Lynden Pindling International Airport when they returned home on Bahamasair following their dominant win in Martinique.

The federation also raised concerns about pool issues at the Betty Kelly-Kenning National Swim Complex and the government declining to host next year’s championships.

CARIFTA Track And Field

The field events were a major part of Team Bahamas’ success in Grenada, and the javelin throwers were one of the highlights.

Taysha Stubbs became one of the most prolific throwers in CARIFTA history with her third consecutive gold medal in the U20 girls.

Akheel Williams also reached the medal podium for the second straight year in the U17 boys, and Ethan North got his first CARIFTA medal in the U20 boys, an improvement on a sixth-place finish from last year.
