NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Following the funeral of his holiness Pope Francis, Catholics around the world are observing nine days of mourning to commemorate his life.

Here at home, a solemn memorial mass in thanksgiving for the late pontiff’s life and ministry was held at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral Friday evening.

The sanctuary was filled with the aroma of spiritual incense as hundreds of members gathered for the sacred service.

Dozens of clergymen and several government officials attended, including Governor General Cynthia Pratt, Prime Minister Philip Davis, Minister of Foreign Affairs Fred Mitchell and others.

They were all there to pay final respects to a global spiritual leader, remembered for his humility, grace and commitment to peace.
