UNITED STATES – Measles cases in the U.S. have surged past 1,000, marking the second-highest total in 25 years, according to the CDC.

So far, infections have been confirmed in 30 states, with nearly all cases involving people who were unvaccinated or whose vaccination status is unknown.

Three people, two of them children, have died.

Health officials warn the outbreak could worsen, with possible exposures reported at airports, hotels, and even a Shakira concert in New Jersey.
