NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The premier nationwide tournament for girls and juniors, the Father Marcian Betters Basketball Classic, continued its role of showcasing young athletes over the winter break.

The 37th edition of the event concluded yesterday at the Kendal Isaacs Gymnasium, highlighting strong performances across multiple age divisions.

In the intermediate boys final, the Jordan Prince William Falcons pulled away for a 69–48 win over the Queen’s College Comets, while R.M. Bailey captured the senior girls title with a 63–46 victory over Teleos.

D.W. Davis continued its dominance in the junior division with a double celebration, claiming the boys title with a 71–47 win over Patrick J. Bethel and the girls title after defeating the S.C. McPherson Sharks 43–26.

At the primary level, the Temple Christian Suns edged Xavier’s Lower School 42–33 to win the primary girls division, while Freedom Baptist secured the primary boys title with a 44–36 win over Temple Christian Suns.

Ole Miss Basketball Highlights

College hoops at Ole Miss produced a pair of wins Wednesday night.

Coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin and her nationally ranked No. 14 women’s team recorded their most lopsided win in program history, a 102–34 victory over Mississippi Valley State at the SJB Pavilion in Oxford.

The Rebels scored 63 second-half points, tying a program record, and set a new school mark with a 68-point margin of victory.

Ole Miss improved to 11–1 on the season, reaching the 100-point mark for the second time this year and doing so multiple times in a season for the first time since 2009–10.

Coach Yo now owns five of the 10 largest blowouts in program history.

On the men’s side, AJ Storr had 14 points as Ole Miss defeated Alabama A&M 80–66 at Cadence Bank Arena in Tupelo.

Storr also recorded season highs with six rebounds and four assists and surpassed 300 career rebounds. Ole Miss moved to 7–4 on the season.

JUCO Transfers Making an Impact

From JUCO to a stacked mid-major that made an NCAA tournament run is a difficult path, but Valentino Simon did just that and is now earning opportunities as a senior.

Simon continued his breakout season, finishing with a career-high 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting and five rebounds in just 14 minutes off the bench in a dominant 105–58 win over York (Neb.) at Baxter Arena.

Just last week, Simon posted a career-high 13 rebounds with 10 points for his first career double-double in Omaha’s 79–70 victory over Doane.

After JUCO stops at Southwest Virginia and Hutchinson, he is now playing a key role for the Mavericks following a season in which he did not see action as a junior while Omaha won the Summit League and advanced to the NCAA tournament.

Brent Moss led the way for the UTSA Roadrunners, tying for the team high with 16 points in a 97–70 loss to the USC Trojans.

Another JUCO transfer and former national champion with Barton Community College, Moss continues a successful transition to the Division I level, averaging 8.4 points and four rebounds per game.

For the Murray State Racers, Fred King delivered another strong performance in a 115–100 win over Akron at the Jack Jones Classic, scoring 11 points with eight rebounds.

He is averaging 12.1 points and 8.2 rebounds per game this season as Murray State starts 8–3.
