CHINA – Meanwhile China is firing back at President Trump’s sweeping tariffs, raising duties on U.S. imports to 84%, up from 34%, according to the Finance Ministry.

This comes as Trump’s 104% levy on Chinese goods took effect, triggering fresh fears of a global recession.

State media slammed the U.S. move as “trade tyranny”, while officials warned the tariffs could devastate China’s already fragile economy.

Beijing hasn’t ruled out more retaliation, with reports it may ban Hollywood films and suspend fentanyl cooperation with Washington.

The American Chamber of Commerce in China says the chaos won’t help consumers or the economy on either side.
