CHINA – China slammed fresh U.S. sanctions on senior cuban officials Tuesday, calling them illegal and a violation of Cuba’s sovereignty.

Foreign ministry pokesperson Lin Jian urged Washington to lift its decades-long embargo and remove Cuba from its list of state sponsors of terrorism.

Lin also accused the U.S. of using “human rights” as a pretext for interference, and pointed to American violations in places like Guantanamo Bay.

Beijing says it firmly supports Cuba’s right to choose its own development path.
