WNBA

Tuesday night was an ugly loss for Jonquel Jones and the New York Liberty, but they’re headed back to the playoffs.

The team lost 66-58 to the Golden State Valkyries on the road at Chase Center – but don’t panic, they still clInched a playoff spot, with some help, thanks to the phoenix mercury’s 85-79 win over the indiana fever.

New York is now the fifth seed, following their worst shooting performance of the season – 31.6 percent from the field, 7-for-27 beyond the arc.

These final three games are the last opportunity to get right and more importantly, get healthy before the playoffs begin on September 14.

Denzel Daxon is back on an NFL roster.

Daxon signed to the Arizona Cardinals practice squad Tuesday through the international player pathway.

The 6’2″ defensive lineman claimed the Cardinals’ international exemption spot after the release of offensive lineman Roy Mbaeteka.

The Crooked Island native, the latest  Bahamian to play in the NFL played collegiately at Ohio University before transferring to Illinois, where he started 11 games at nose tackle in 2023.

As an undrafted free agent, he spent his rookie season with the Dallas Cowboys as an international practice-squad player and was released at the end of the preseason.

Daxon will wear no.59 for the Cardinals.

Minor League Baseball

Kristian Robinson continues to make headway in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization

Robinson is on fire with the Reno Aces in triple-a over his last five games.

Tuesday night he went 3-4 in the aces’ 11-1 win over the Tacoma Rainers.

During that stretch he’s hitting an eye-popping nine for eighteen for a .500 average, with two multi-hit games, including two home runs and three doubles, driving in eight runs and coming close to hitting for the cycle.

He’s become one of the organization’s most exciting prospects to watch as the season draws to a close.
