U.S.A. – It feels like this happens every time Jazz Chisholm Jr steps on to the field – but, he’s about to make Bahamian baseball history once again.

The New York Yankees star has officially been named as the eighth and final participant in the 2025 T-Mobile home run derby, set to take place Monday, july 14 at Truist Park in Atlanta as a part of MLB All-Star weekend.

Chisholm will make history as the first bahamian to compete in the derby.

He’ll square off against an impressive lineup of sluggers in Atlanta.

Cal Raleigh (Seattle Mariners), James Wood (Washington Nationals), Byron Buxton (Minnesota Twins), Oneil Cruz (Pittsburgh Pirates), Junior Caminero (Tampa Bay Rays), Brent Rooker (Athletics), Ronald Acuña Jr. (Atlanta Braves).

Chisholm up to 17 home runs and counting this season and enters the derby riding a hot streak, with seven home runs in his last 12 games.

Among the field, his home run total ranks sixth.

There have been some changes to this year’s derby, the first round has a three-minute timer or 40-pitch limit, followed by three bonus outs, and a fourth if a homer goes over 425 feet.

Top four scorers advance to semifinals where they will use a two minute, 27-pitch structure with similar bonus rules.

The T-mobile Home Run Derby airs live on ESPN and ESPN2 at 8:00 pm.

Baseball

Bahamian baseball prospects showed out on Independence Day in the Double A Texas League.

Sebastian Walcott homered for his Frisco Roughriders, but Kristian Robinson had the final say with his walkoff single.

Robinson’s Amarillo Sod Poodles overcame a nine run deficit in the eighth inning, capped by Robinson’s late game heroics in the bottom of the 11th.

Walcott hit a solo home run in the sixth inning to give Frisco an early 6-2 lead.

Both players return to the field tonight and the six game series concludes on july 13, headed into the All-Star break.

Track and Field

Sprinter Anthonique Strachan is gaining momentum on the European circuit after a string of promising performances in Italy.

She recently raced at the International City Meet in nembro and finished third in the 100m in 11.49 secs.

Just over a week ago, she raced at the  Arcobaleno EAP and took second out of the field of 40 in 11.85 secs.

Strachan has shown her resilience yet again — after she suffered a season-ending injury to both feet a year ago.

In may she ran a season’s best 11.34 secs in the 100m and 22.86 secs in the 200m in Jamaica.
