NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A bill has been drafted allowing for Bahamian women married to foreign men to pass on their citizenship.

Recently, former Attorney General Allyson Maynard Gibson KC called it a no-brainer and urged lawmakers to pass the bill.

Currently, a Bahamian woman married to a foreign spouse cannot automatically pass on citizenship to their children born abroad.

Bahamian men who have children with foreign women out of wedlock cannot automatically pass on citizenship to their children, even if they are born in The Bahamas.

A matter is before the Privy Council which Pinder says the government is waiting on before drafting the legislation.
