Clarke, Cougars Advance to Final Four

U.S.A. – Bryan Clarke, assistant strength coach for the number one ranked Houston Cougars saw his program advance to its seventh final four in school history.

In the Midwest Region, the Cougars defeated the number two seed Tennessee Vols, 69-50, Sunday afternoon at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Clarke, a former St. John’s College and Texas Southern grad joined the Cougars support staff in 2021 and serves in his role for both the men’s and women’s teams.

Also in the Midwest Region, Mikhail McLean – assistant coach for the third seeded Kentucky Wildcats saw his team eliminated in the sweet 16 with a 78-65 loss to Tennessee.

In the women’s tournament, Spokane Regional 1 – Coach Yo, Rhema Collins and no.5 Ole Miss were eliminated in the sweet 16 with a 76-62 loss to the top seeded UCLA Bruins.

Ole miss concluded the season 22-11 and reached their 12th sweet 16 in school history.

In her sophomore season, collins appeared in 13 games ,averaged 3.1 points and 2.2 rebounds per game highlighted by a career-high 12 points against Tennessee State.

Track & Field

It seems as if anytime Tim Munnings suits up, it’s another milestone moment for Bahamian track and field.

Over the weekend, Munnings added a world record to his resume.

Munnings won gold in the men’s 55-59 400 meters and set a new world record at the 2025 World Masters Athletics World Indoor Championships in Gainesville, Florida,

He finished in 52.82 seconds, to surpass the previous record of 53.20 seconds

It was a fitting conclusion to the meet for Munnings who was previously disqualified in the 200m heats for a lane infraction.

The former Olympic 4×400 relay bronze medalist first made history for The Bahamas at the masters level last year in Sweden with his 400m outdoor title.

Team Bahamas fielded a five member team at the indoor champs in Gainsville and won two medals.

Mike Armbrister also won bronze in the men’s 65-69 long jump with a leap of 4.73m 

In the women’s 35-39, Miriam Byfield finished seventh overall in both the 200m and 400m. 

Dr. Brian Humblestone was fifth in the men’s 85-89 60m and Natasha Brown was 20th overall in the women’s 55-59 long jump.

MLB

In 36 hours the New York Yankees lineup and their use of the torpedo bats have become greatest wedge issue in sports – Jazz Chisholm Jr. has three home runs in three games so you should know what we think about it, we love it.

Chisholm has been a major part of the Yankees’ offensive explosion to begin the season and on Sunday afternoon, he went 3-4 with two home runs, three runs scored and five rbi.

New York won 12-3 to complete a three-game sweep over the Brewers at Yankee Stadium.

Chisholm’s three-run homer in the seventh inning helped the Yankees tie the MLB record with 15 home runs through the first three games of the season.

NCAA Swimming

Lamar Taylor’s year at Tennessee had the storybook ending every athlete dreams of – a career defining moment on the national stage.

Taylor was a member of two record setting relay teams and helped the Vols to a fifth place finish at the NCAA Division I Championships in Weyerhauser Kings County Aquatic Center in Washington.

He earned three first team All-American and one second team All-American honors as the Vols finished fifth overall with 266.5 points.

Taylor’s 400 free team finished in an ncaa record time of 2:42.30 seconds.  He swam a 41.35 second split on the third leg.
 
He was also a member of the 200 free relay team that set a championship record in 1:12.84 seconds. 

Taylor anchored the race, touching the wall with an 18.54 second split.

In the 200 medley relay, Taylor opened with a 20.74 second split on the backstroke leg and the Vols finished second in 1:20.50 seconds.

Individually, in the 100 free, Taylor won the consolation final in 41.31 seconds. He took ninth with the no. 3 time on the program leaderboard.

He also finished fourth in the 100 back in 45.51 seconds.
