NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A strong CARIFTA track and field team will have a few collegiate underclassmen leading the way for this much heralded group.

Georgia Southern sophomore Shatalya Dorsett returns for her fourth CARIFTA appearance, following a standout indoor season where she was named Sun Belt Women’s Track Newcomer of the Year and to the All-Sun Belt team.

Dorsett finished top 3 in every 60m this season and won the 60m  at the sun belt championships with a new personal best and school record time of 7.33 seconds.

She was also fifth in the 200m in 23.56 seconds, the fifth fastest time in the sun belt and third in program history.

Early in the outdoor season, she has season’s bests of 24.11 seconds in the 200m the eighth-fastest time in Georgia southern’s history, and 11.69 seconds in the 100m.

Wyoming freshman jumper Koi Adderley also returns for her fourth CARIFTA appearance.

In 2024, she just missed the medal podium in Grenada with a personal best clearance of 1.70m.

At Wyoming this season she posted her indoor personal bests in both the high jump and long jump 1.65 meters and 5.66 meters respectively.

Outdoors thus far, she has a season’s best clearance of 1.66 meters.

Headed into year 52, the CARIFTA Track and Field Championships have garnered a reputation as one of the top junior meets – not just in the region, but in the world.

Meanwhile, North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletic Association (NACAC) President, Mike Sands, addressed members of this year’s team, impressing on them the magnitude of the event and the opportunity they have with the international track and field community watching.

A hotbed for recruiting Caribbean talent then IAAF President, the late Lamine Diack, once called the meet “on par with the World Championships,” due to the high concentration of world class performances.

The spotlight is currently on the juniors, but our pro athletes also had an active on the circuit.
