Colombia Accepts U.S. Deportation Flights To Avert Trade War

COLOMBIA – A potential trade war between the U.S. and Colombia has been averted after Colombia agreed to allow U.S. military flights carrying deported migrants to land. The conflict began when Colombian President Gustavo Petro barred two U.S. planes from landing, demanding better treatment of Colombian migrants. In response, the Trump administration threatened tariffs on Colombian exports, prompting Petro to warn of retaliation.

By Monday, Colombia reversed its stance, agreeing to accept migrants “without limitation.” The White House hailed the move as a victory for Trump’s hard-line immigration policies.
