NASSAU, BAHAMAS – After winning the B category for the 2025 Boxing Day Parade, the Colours Junkanoo Group says they’re once again ready to grab the crown at the New Year’s Day Parade.

Colours, known historically for their creative costumes and tight melodies, came out of the gate strong on Boxing Day – displaying our rich gambling history from the iconic casinos on the Cable Beach strip to the well-known establishments today – a creative theme, group leader Christian Justilien says was the winning lottery ticket.

“I think that went over well because it is a part of our culture, taking a game of chance, even in the church you have raffles and so on”

“Hard work very, very hard work, and being diligent and meticulous mode would be due, as we often say our competition is ourselves, so we try to be done in the past”

The group has been a staple in Junkanoo for years, winning the B category countless times.

So what can fans expect for the New Year’s Day Parade?

Christian Justilien – Leader, Colours

“We’re gonna be doing a Sunday in The Bahamas, [it] would be done as families, as friends, as Bahamians, you go to church, we go driving, we go for ice cream, we go to the tracks, we go to Junkanoo practice, the various things that we find ourselves engaged in, you’re gonna see a little bit of everything “

While the excitement was there, the parade’s management and flow have been heavily criticized, with the National Junkanoo Corporation under heavy scrutiny.

Christian Justilien – Leader, Colours

“I think we have to just wait until this next parade passes to see if it’s a common thing but Colours, we just show up on time and deliver our performance, the gaps or any mishap, I think that the person who organize, we leave it up to them to sort those issues out.”

“The misconception is that the B and A has a difference in quality of the work, and also if you are winning a lot, they think you should move to A. The only difference between A and B is the size of the groups”
