NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Concerns are being raised about operations at the Old Bahama Bay Resort in West End, Grand Bahama.

The general manager of the property is expressing some uncertainty about potential changes but the member of parliament for the area insists there is no cause for alarm.

In an exclusive interview, general manager at the Old Bahama Bay Resort James Culmer told Our News that while occupancy rates are strong and are expected to be at full capacity every weekend until September, there are some challenges at the hotel.

Although he did not provide specifics, he hinted that these issues could impact job security for employees.

However, West Grand Bahama and Bimini MP Kingsley Smith says the the resort’s owners are simply transitioning management and no jobs will be lost, nor will the property close.

But this is not the first time West End has faced economic uncertainty.

Over the years, several proposed projects have failed to move forward, leaving many in the community discouraged.

A little over a year ago, local business owner Sherica Smith expressed concerns about the economic climate in West End, saying slow business has made it difficult for entrepreneurs to remain open.

Meanwhile Our News has obtained a letter by LRA OBB, the property’s ownership group.

The statement explains a structured transition plan is being implemented in collaboration with IVRC, a temporary licensee, to ensure uninterrupted operations at the resort.

The changes are expected to take place as of March 28th.

The letter states that these changes aim to bring about “A renewed era of economic development” in Grand Bahama.

With a focus on elevating service standards, increasing exposure, growing revenue and expanding opportunities for West End residents.

Officials maintain that operations at Old Bahama Bay will continue without disruption.
