NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A group of independent contractors demanding monies owed to them by the government exercised a protest outside the Office of The Prime Minister as they vented their frustrations.

“Pay us now!” and “Give us what we’re owed!” are the cries of independent contract workers, protesting outside the Office of The Prime Minister this morning, demanding they be paid for services rendered.

Some protestors claiming they are owed for services rendered as far back as last summer.

Richard Johnson is the organiser of the protest. Johnson says the majority of those affected were contracted by the Bahamas Public Parks and Public Beaches Authority. However, Johnson says efforts to address their needs have been insufficient.

The frustrations of contractors are evident, especially those like Pamela Miller, whose services was terminated last December.

Our News reached out to Minister of Works and Utilities Alfred Sears and Executive Chairman of Beaches and Parks Authority Mckell Bonaby for comment, but our calls were not returned up to news time.

In the meantime, protestors say they plan to meet outside the Office of The Prime Minister every Tuesday morning until their issues are resolved.
