NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A judge is seeking answers after a man convicted of a sex crime was released from prison before he was sentenced.

Justice Cheryl Grant-Thompson was supposed to sentence Rashad Johnson for assault with intent to rape on Thursday.

She rescheduled the sentencing to Friday after he was not brought down from prison.

She was shocked to learned on Friday that Johnson wasn’t brought down because he is no longer being held at the prison.

Johnson was convicted last July after he tried to rape a woman after he went to her home on the pretext of buying cigarettes on September 20, 2020.

The woman successfully fought off Johnson and he fled.

Johnson was remanded to prison, pending sentencing arguments and he was expected to learn his fate this week.

Grant-Thompson said she expects acting Commissioner of Prisons Doan Cleare to explain what went wrong on February 27th.
