NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A convicted killer is seeking a new appeal.

Dervinique Edwards has asked the Court of Appeal to take another look at a 2021 decision that affirmed her 28-year sentence for the 2018 murder of Breanna Mackey.

The move comes two years after the Privy Council, the country’s highest court, refused to hear Edwards’ appeal after finding no miscarriage of justice occurred in her case.

But Edwards’ lawyer Marianne Cadet believes the decision should be reviewed based on new developments concerning the law of joint enterprise.

Edwards was part of a mob that ganged Breanna over a broken cellphone, but she didn’t inflict the fatal stabbing wounds.

Cadet says Edwards shouldn’t be held responsible for the actions of another person.

The Court will hear arguments in October.
