NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Court of Appeal has reserved its judgment in the case of a man serving a 35-year sentence for murder.

Marcello McKenzie was convicted of the June 28, 2020 murder of Godfrey Sawyer in 2023.

Sawyer was on the front porch of his home at Jackson Street in Nassau Village when he was shot by two gunmen who fled in a white minibus.

A short time later, police stopped a white minibus that was driven by McKenzie in Pinewood Gardens.

The officers found a handgun inside a bag in the bus that was linked to the shooting through ballistics.

In his defense, McKenzie argued that the gun was brought into the bus by his passenger Jamaal Armbrister, whom he had given a ride.

Armbrister was also charged with the murder. However, he was killed in October 2022 during an alleged armed robbery.
