NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Amid a bloody start to 2023 and a record murder rate in 2022, Prime Minister Philip Davis says too much time has been spent on detecting crime instead of preventing it and rehabilitation.

His comments came on the sidelines of the 2023 New Year’s Day Junkanoo Parade, just hours before the country recorded its first murders of the year.

But according to Davis, that will change this year. However, it seems the official opposition isn’t buying it.

Free National Movement Deputy Leader Shanendon Cartwright says for decades governments move quickly on financial services legislation but the same could not be said on the crime front.
