ARGENTINA – Prime Minister Philip Davis dedicating much of his address at the opening session at the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States to the ongoing crisis in Haiti. The prime minister says it will take a collective approach to help Haiti find a way out of the current crisis.

Amid ongoing economic instability in Haiti and a growing health crisis, Prime Minister Philip Davis says the overall situation is worsening and poses a substantial threat to The Bahamas and neighboring countries.

The PM was speaking in Argentina at the opening session of the Seventh Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States.

On Sunday, law enforcement apprehended nearly 400 Haitian nationals looking to illegally enter The Bahamas.

The United States is calling it one of the largest smuggling operations in the region.

That was followed by another 26 caught in South Andros, Tuesday evening.

Davis, who is also the chairman of CARICOM, says enhanced regional partnerships can also help to scale up capacity-building for the local police and tackle people, contraband, and gun trafficking.

The crisis in Haiti worsened following the assassination of President Jovenel Moise.

Haiti has no president or sitting parliament and hasn’t seen an election since 2016.
