CUBA – A Cuban government minister has resigned after sparking public outrage with comments downplaying poverty.

Labour Minister Marta Elena Cabrera claimed there are “no beggars” in Cuba, just people pretending to be poor.

Her remarks, made during a national assembly session, drew rare public backlash in the tightly controlled country.

Even President Díaz-Canel indirectly rebuked her, warning leaders not to be disconnected from the people’s struggles.

Activists called her comments “an insult to the Cuban people.”
