NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Her images are synonymous with Independence itself.

A young Marguerite Pindling is immortalized in the images of the events of 50 years ago. Still today, she has found vivid memories of those famous few days.

As she stood next to her husband about to shoulder the birth of a new nation, Dame Marguerite Pindling recalls the moment the Bahamian flag was hoisted for the first time.

Just one of many vivid memories of the 1973 Independence Celebration.

She recalls the arrival of a young Prince of Whales for the celebrations.

Stagnant July night air created some tense moments when the Bahamian flag was hoisted for the very first time.

We couldn’t resist the story of what led to the famous photos of the dancing dame and young prince.
