PORTLAND, U.S.A. – After missing the previous two games with an illness, Deandre Ayton returned to court for the struggling Portland Trailblazers and helped the team snap a six game losing streak.

Ayton finished with 15 points and 14 rebounds in the Blazers 126-124 win over the Denver Nuggets Thursday night at the Moda Center in Portland.

In addition to his 10th double double of the season, Ayton also had a season high four blocked shots.

He shot 7-14 from the field and also added four assists in 35 minutes.

Ayton and the Blazers look to make it two in a row on the road against the San Antonio Spurs Saturday night.

Staying in the association, Klay Thompson and his Dallas Mavericks came up short against Kai Jones and the Los Angeles Clippers.

The Clippers took the 118-95 win at the American Airlines Center in Dallas.

Thompson finished with a team high 22 points.

NCAA Basketball

Deyton Albury posted a season high scoring effort in his Utah State Aggies’ final home game of 2024.

Albury scored a season high 15 off the bench but the Aggies came up just short in its first loss of the season, 75-73 to UC San Diego.

After an injury to Aggies guard Drake Allen, Albury checked in, made an immediate impact and scored eight straight points to give Utah State a 22-17 lead.

He shot 5-5 in the first half, including a pair of three pointers to give the Aggies a 39-32 lead at the half.

San Diego rallied in the second half, and a 7-0 run with just under two minutes to play to give them the lead for good.

Albury’s previous season high was nine points in a November 13th win over Westminster.

Utah State will now hit the road for three-straight, beginning December 22 against St. Mary’s.

Meanwhile, in NCAA Division II, Richard Lowe has had an immediate impact on Lemoyne-Owen basketball.

Lowe has been on an incredible run since the calendar flipped to December and has averaged 17 points and 11 rebounds through four games.

On the heels of winning SIAC Newcomer of the Week, Lowe followed up with back to back double doubles in on the road for the magicians.

He finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds in a 70-52 loss to Savannah State and followed with 15 points and 14 rebounds in a 79-62 loss to Edward Waters.

After stops at Western Oklahoma and Northwood, Lowe is averaging 13 points and nine rebounds per game in his first season with the magicians.
