SPAIN – The death toll from a devastating train collision in southern Spain has risen to 39, with more than 150 people injured, according to police.

The crash happened Sunday evening near Adamuz, in the province of Córdoba, when a derailing high-speed train collided with an oncoming service.

Authorities say around 400 passengers were on board the two trains, most traveling to and from Madrid after the weekend.

Transport Minister Óscar Puente says the cause of the crash remains under investigation, as emergency crews continue recovery efforts at the scene.
