NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Court of Appeal has affirmed the 12-year sentence handed to a doctor convicted of raping a woman 14 years ago.

Dr Gerald Forbes sought permission ti appeal his conviction out of time but the court found his proposed appeal had no prospects to succeed.

On September 16, 2022,a jury found that Forbes raped the then-20-year-old woman in the bathroom of a medical office on March 9, 2010.

The victim testified that she worked in the same building as Forbes’ clinic, Carmichael Medical. She said that Forbes asked her to answer his phone when he was away.

According to her, Forbes came upstairs with the cordless phone and when she opened the door, he manhandled her and raped her in the bathroom.

For his part, Forbes never denied that sex took place—but he claimed it was consensual.
