NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Haiti’s closest neighbor, the Dominican Republic has responded to the chaos there by cracking down on migrants and a military build-up at the border between the two countries.

The Dominican President Luis Abinader has announced the purchase of six helicopters, 10 aircraft, 21 armored vehicles and four anti-riot trucks.

The move is also raising fears that the long-existing xenophobia against Haitian migrants will deepen.

One of Haiti’s most powerful gangs has taken control of fuel supplies, leading to water and food shortages.
