This Unique Celebration of Baseball Begins Today

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – When The “Don’t Blink” Home Run derby debuted in 2018, it was one of the most unique and unprecedented spectacles in all of sports: a home run derby that featured the water on scenic Nassau Harbour as its backdrop.

This one-of-a-kind event has allowed Bahamians a chance to have a sneak peek at the next generation of baseball stars, such as Bo Bichette and our very own Jazz Chisholm and Lucius Fox.

In the subsequent years, the event has blossomed from a home run derby into a full-blown celebration of the country’s thriving baseball scene.

This year’s edition promises to be “Don’t Blink’s” most epic to date. This event is especially significant as organizers Todd Isaacs Jr. and Lucius Fox teamed up with the Major League Players’ Association and the Players’ Alliance, an association founded by MLB players to grow the game in black communities in the United States, to stage this year’s event.

The festivities kick off tonight at 6pm with a celebrity softball game that features a number of Bahamian and non-Bahamian baseball prospects, as well as a variety of public figures.

Tickets are $5 and all proceeds benefit the Cancer Treatment Centers of America. On Thursday at 8am there will be a free baseball and softball clinic for boys and girls aged 7-18. Both events will take place at Atlantis Paradise Harbour.

Friday night features a party aboard “Blackbeard’s Revenge” at 6:30 pm and the main event, Home Run Derby in Paradise place on Saturday at 11am at Fort Montagu Beach.

As always, the Home Run Derby will feature Major League Players, Top Minor League Prospects, music, food, bombast, colorful uniforms, custom sneakers, long balls and all the swagger people have come to expect from “Don’t Blink”… with beautiful Nassau Harbour as the backdrop.

Because anything less would be uncivilized.

Over the past four years, “Don’t Blink” has grown from the most unique event in all of baseball to an event that features baseball players genuinely making a positive impact in the community. This year’s edition may be the biggest and best one yet.

If that isn’t reason enough to go out and support it, I’m not sure what is.
