NASSAU, BAHAMAS – And now some good news a young man from West Grand Bahama recently graduated with a PhD in Disaster Management.

He is the first Bahamian to obtain the degree. In this report, he’s sharing why Bahamians should be more interested in the field.

That’s Dr. Trevor Johnson Jr. a West Grand Bahama native and the first Bahamian to obtain a PhD in disaster management. Johnson says he always had an interest in disasters and how they impact different socioeconomic sectors.

He attended North Dakota State University.

Dr. Johnson now works for the Inter-American Development Bank and the Pacific Disaster Center.

While he’s pleased with the public’s support on his recent achievement. He says the fact that he is the only Bahamian with the degree illustrates that there’s a lot more work to be done in the country.

And he’s telling other young people to follow their dreams.
