NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A hit and run driver who mowed down a 53-year-old father as he walked to work asked her victim’s family for forgiveness at a sentencing hearing.

Altamease Rolle, 25, said, “It was truly and accident that should have never happened. I would like to ask you to forgive me and accept that this was a horrible mistake that I wish I could take back.”

The victim Sandy Rolle was walking to his job at Bahamas Waste around 1:40am on February 14, 2022 when Ms Rolle knocked him down and failed to stop.

The car that she was driving was not insured and Rolle did not have a valid driver’s license.

The self-employed nail technician turned herself into police four days after the incident.

The prosecutor, Kachina Thompson, has asked Justice Gregory Hilton to consider a sentence in the range of four to six years in addition to $10,000 in compensation to the victim’s family.

Ms. Rolle’s attorney, Bjorn Ferguson, suggested a sentence of six months’ imprisonment in addition to a $20,000 fine.

Mr. Rolle’s son, Sandzario Rolle, also addressed the court. He said the incident had taken a toll on the family. He said, “I hope the court does the right thing.”

Justice Hilton will give his sentencing decision next month.

Ms. Rolle remains on bail until then.
