NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Police had their hands full over the weekend, probing a string of crimes ranging from stolen vehicles to car jackings, and even hold-ups at businesses in Eastern New Providence.

The crime spree started around 8 p.m. Saturday night after suspects attempted to rob an employee of a business on Village Road.

Police say they ended up fleeing empty-handed.

Then just over an hour later, thieves stole a cash register from a business on Prince Charles Drive.

Another theft also occurred at a business on that very same road around the same time.

Officer in Charge of Crime, Assistant Commissioner Anton Rahming confirms two of the businesses were fast food restaurants – Wendy’s and Popeyes.

“We have been investigating those matters with a view of bringing them to a close.”

“Those matters appear to be connected, they same to be concentrated in one general vicinity – the eastern district.”

However that’s not all, that very same night a man was robbed of his grey 2025 Honda CRV after being confronted by armed suspects.

“I want to assure members of the public that the police are working, we have in our custody quite a number of persons, and you will see in a very short time between today and tomorrow a few persons being taken before court in relation to those matters.”

Meanwhile, officers say they’re doing what they can, and that it’s also important for the public to protect themselves.

“It’s all about the persons having that vulnerability. We have to continue to educate persons on how they move about, being aware of their surroundings, and certainly phelping] those persons who become more out of touch with what is going on in their surroundings.”
