NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A powerful spirit of unity and praise is set to sweep Bay Street this Sunday as the National Junkanoo Committee (NJC), in partnership with the Tourism Development Corporation, hosts a special Ecumenical Service to mark the opening of Junkanoo Week – following the Ministry of Tourism’s cultural showcases on December 18th and 19th and the lively “People’s Rush” on December 20th.

The service, which begins at 4:30PM on the grounds of the government printing property east of East Street, is FREE to the public and will bring together clergymen and clergywomen from across denominations throughout The Bahamas. As the country heads into the holiday season and prepares for another cycle of Junkanoo parades and cultural events, the evening will offer a moment of collective reflection, thanksgiving and blessing.

Leaders from various faith traditions will offer prayers for the nation, it’s residents, it’s elected leadership and the vibrant cultural community that sustains the spirit of Junkanoo year after year. Organizers say the goal is to ground the week ahead in togetherness, gratitude and spiritual renewal.

What follow is a celebration not to be missed.

Immediately after the service, attendees will be treated to a Grand Gospel Fest – also completely FREE – celebrating the depth and diversity of Bahamian gospel music. The concert will feature an impressive lineup of performers, including:

Bishop Simeon Outten

Bishop Lawrence Rolle

Edison Sumner & Voice Of Praise

Oslien Jadorte

Shaback

Davian Chase

The Church of God National Praise Team

Joinae Gibson

Colyn Kristopher

The Bahamas Brass Band

The Tabernacle Concert Choir

The Church of God National’s Children Choir

With uplifting praise, powerful vocals, and dynamic choral performances, the Gospel Fest promises to be a joyful, family-friendly experience and an inspiring way to set the tone for the week of Junkanoo celebrations.

Organizers are encouraging everyone to come out, bring their families, and take part in this free, community-centered evening of workship, fellowship, and cultural pride.
