NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Former Chief Justice Brian Moore, says the outcry of the public, particularly during times of high crime, is understandable. However, he says the debate on whether or not someone should be granted bail, must be properly framed.

Moore also addressed another vexing issue for Bahamians: the decision to grant bail to repeat offenders.

Former Chief Justice Michael Barnett also weighing in. He says that by law, judges are required to put into writing their reasons for granting bail. He says the information is available and admonishes the public to seek it out.

Barnett says the decision all comes down to evidence, admitting that the quality of material submitted before the courts for applications of bail, has significantly improved.
