NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A notice sent to Doris Johnson Senior High School parents last week has sparked debate on social media. The notice outlines the uniform dos and don’ts for the upcoming academic year.

Both girls and boys are not allowed to wear makeup, necklaces, or nail polish, and skirts must be two inches below the knees.

Education Minister Glenys Hanna-Martin says schools must use their discretion while preparing the nation’s youth for a world of rules and regulations.

Concerns have also been raised about keeping students cool as temperatures rise. The education minister says the uniform code will address these issues.

T.A. Thompson Junior High School Principal Ishmael Smith also weighed in on the matter.
