NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A man who escaped from prison after he was taken from his cell and left unattended has been jailed for one year.

Winston Walker, who also uses the name Paul Williams, pleaded guilty to his August 31 escape from custody when he appeared before Magistrate Samuel McKinney.

Walker, a 30-year-old Jamaican national,  was being held at the Remand Center on charges of attempted murder, armed robbery and attempted armed robbery.

Officers removed him from his cell around 2:00 pm after he claimed that other inmates had threatened to kill him.

Walker then made a run for it while the officers were busy dealing with several fights among inmates.

He jumped the wall behind the chapel and jumped the fence that led to Yamacraw Road.

Walker’s escape was short lived as police arrested him around 1:00 am on Sea Breeze Lane after they responded to reports of a prowler.

McKinney told Walker that he would inform officials of the security concerns that prompted him to escape.

Walker is awaiting trial for the other offences listed above.
