EUROPEAN UNION – The European Union says it’s offering a “zero-for-zero” tariff deal to avoid a full-blown trade war with U.S. President Donald Trump.

The bloc is facing steep tariffs on steel, aluminum, cars, and nearly all goods starting Wednesday.

EU ministers say they’d rather negotiate than to retaliate, but they’re preparing countermeasures just in case.

That includes duties on U.S. imports like Bourbon, diamonds, and dental floss, with more to come by the end of the month.

Meanwhile, Trump is threatening even higher tariffs if Europe strikes back.
