NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Meteorologists and weather experts around the region gathering for a workshop put on by The Bahamas Department of Meteorology. The group is looking at the impact of storm surges on our islands.

With hurricane season just around the corner, local and international weather experts are now looking at better ways to predict these storms; specifically the surges that come along with them.

Doctor Cody Fritz, a storm surge specialist at the National Hurricane Centre, says the sessions held throughout will serve as a tool to raise awareness and educate forecasters on improved ways of predicting these surges.

Acting Director of The Bahamas Meteorology Department Jeffery Simons says the predictions can help save lives.

While the workshops serves as forums for weather experts, Simmons adds residents themselves ought to be well versed on the matter.
