NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Summer 2023 is shaping up to be a boom year for The Bahamas, specifically for the Family Islands, according to Aviation Director Kenneth Romer.

Romer reported that the Family Islands have exceeded 2019 which was a banner year for tourism arrivals.

He says these passengers are the ones that stay in The Bahamas longer and spend more.

As for Abaco which was nearly decimated by Hurricane Dorian, Romer says the island is making a strong comeback.

In New Providence, Romer says air arrivals are two percent short of 2019 numbers.

But what’s the hype with the Family Islands? Romer explains, the out islands present a more authentic experience.

Up to June, air and sea arrivals are more than five million and Romer anticipates the numbers will reach nine or ten million.

The Ministry of Tourism launched several promotions to bring more heads in beds to the Family Islands and provide a more diverse product.
