NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A Golden Gates resident who lost her house in a fire will soon be getting a new home.

The woman and her family celebrated as they broke ground on the property on Monday.

Ground was broken on a new home for Ellen Sherman.

Back in September 2022, Sherman’s house was decimated by fire leaving her with close to nothing.

However, she describes today as a day of rejoicing as she will soon be turning keys to her new home.

The house will be constructed by Arawak Homes Limited.

President Franon Wilson says after reviewing the file, they wanted to do something different.

Member of Parliament Pia Glover-Rolle reflected on the day of that dreadful fire. She and others banded together to assist Sherman in getting temporary housing.

She adds the entire situation reminds her of a Psalms.

Wilson says the home will be completed in the next four months.
