NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Larry Demeritte is poised to make history at the 150th Kentucky Derby next weekend as the first Bahamian horse trainer to participate, joining only the third black trainer since 1951.

He says it’s an honor to represent The Bahamas this way.

For Bahamians eager to support a contender next Saturday, look no further than West Saratoga, a three-year-old with an inspiring backstory.

Despite a noteworthy pedigree, Demeritte says West Saratoga was acquired for a mere $11,000, slipping through the cracks compared to other derby hopefuls purchased for over a million dollars with one even fetching more than $2 million.
