There are still individuals that are seeking to divide, to tear down, some of whom who still want a bite at the apple, as it were. And, even as we reach out to those individuals, bear in mind that we first and foremost still have to deal with the challenges facing ordinary Bahamians, who right now have grown very disappointed and disenchanted with the current administration. The new day is not a better day.

Dame Janet was speaking to a recent International Women’s Day brunch. At the time, some aspiring candidates made their intentions known.

She became a noted attorney who in 1982 and became the first woman elected to the House of Assembly, serving in the cabinet of former Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham.

She admitted to the forum that up until recently, she was not confident in the FNM’s ability to win the next election, but said the FNM must show it is better than the PLP.

Dame Janet also said the great disaffection for the PLP doesn’t automatically benefit the FNM.

By the grace of God, I think we have gotten back into running. There are many more disenchanted, disaffected FNMs who have been coming home. There are PLP supporters who say I cant deal with this crew.

Still, Sands says the party will not rest on its laurels.

The FNM trod a rocky road recently here with two races for leadership. In both instances, Michael Pintard came out as leader.

Nearly five years into office, he believes the Davis administration hasn’t done enough for Bahamians.

“What have you delivered in spite of the amount of money that you spent and, I put it to you right now, that despite all the tax revenue, there is not a single accomplishment that this administration can point to. Not one. And if there is you show it to me.”
