NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A by-election is on the horizon, and both major political parties have now ratified their candidates for the vacant Golden Isles seat.

The Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) has endorsed Darron Pickstock, who says his team is ready to hit the ground running.

However, despite speculation that the Free National Movement (FNM) might sit this one out, Brian Brown, the FNM’s ratified candidate since June, says he’s ready for whatever comes, by-election or general election.

Brown, who first served in the constituency as chairman under former candidate Charles Maynard, says he’s no stranger to the area, having built relationships with residents since 2011.

“When I go door to door, all I’m hearing is, ‘Mr. Brown, this is your time, this is your season,’” he told Our News.

The Coalition of Independents (COI) has also confirmed Brian Rolle as its candidate in the upcoming race.

Brown, who ran unsuccessfully in the 2021 General Election, says he never stopped serving. His former campaign office has since been converted into a community center, where he continues to host initiatives like Camp Golden Isles, a free annual summer camp for local children.

“My work will speak for me,” Brown said. “I’ve been consistent in serving the people, and I plan to continue that work.”

The by-election follows the passing of former MP Vaughn Miller, leaving the seat vacant. Prime Minister Philip Davis officially announced last week that a by-election will be held in the constituency.
